Our mission

Advancing surgery through digital innovation

Six months after liver transplantation or major hepatectomy, the mortality rate is around 10%.

To address this major clinical challenge, we develop and integrate innovative technologies at every stage of the surgical pathway: to better prepare for surgery, enhance the safety of surgical procedures, and improve postoperative patient follow-up.

Preoperative

Better understanding.
Better planning.

Intraoperative

Better vision. Better decisions.

Our vision

From innovation to progress

Our ambition is not to innovate for innovation's sake, but to turn innovation into progress for everyone.

However effective it may be, an innovation only transforms practice if it can truly be adopted and deployed. BOPA builds its projects around three essential conditions to take innovation from prototype to shared progress.

Innovation

Acceptability

An innovation that fits into
clinical practice.

Designing solutions with healthcare professionals that fit their practices and needs, making them relevant and truly adopted.

Interoperability

Innovation that works with what already exists.

Developing solutions that integrate seamlessly with the equipment, tools, and systems already in use in the operating room.

Sustainability

An innovation that can be
deployed for the long term.

Considering economic viability and environmental impact from the very beginning, enabling solutions to be deployed sustainably and at scale.

Progress
for everyone

Who we are

Academic and clinical expertise driving innovation

At the crossroads of research, clinical practice and digital technology, the BOPA Innovation Chair is shaping the surgery of tomorrow to improve patient care.

01A partnership between three institutions

Founded in 2020 following the Surgical Innovation Weekend (WIC) by Prof. Éric Vibert, a transplant surgeon at Paul-Brousse Hospital AP-HP and professor at Université Paris-Saclay, the BOPA Chair is jointly supported by AP-HP, Institut Mines-Télécom (IMT) and Université Paris-Saclay.

From research to impact

The BOPA Chair is committed to turning research into concrete, genuinely useful solutions. We pursue this ambition in two complementary ways: through innovations that are already making an impact, and by strengthening connections between academic hospital research and industry partners.

1. Delivering tangible results in clinical practice

Research at BOPA is already translating into concrete solutions in the field, including the creation of start-ups and the development of medical software that directly serves healthcare professionals and patients.

  • 2 start-ups launchedto bring breakthrough innovations to life and scale their development
  • 2 medical software solutions developed and deployedto meet healthcare professionals' needs
  • Colette, a therapeutic education chatbotfor transplant patients
  • MesGardes, an app simplifying the managementof operating room on-call schedules

2. Strengthening ties between AP-HP and the pharmaceutical and MedTech industries

Our second priority is to build and strengthen bridges between AP-HP and pharma and medtech companies, fostering the development, testing, and deployment of innovations as close as possible to real-world clinical needs.
